Gentner elected to Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering

Gentner was cited for his "outstanding contributions to the field of air pollution by advancing measurement techniques that capture chemical complexity and by furthering knowledge of sources of reactive pollutant emissions impacting air quality across outdoor and indoor environments, their atmospheric chemical transformations, and the impacts of climate change on urban air quality."

Gentner's research focuses on understanding the chemical complexity of air pollution across outdoor and indoor environments — from the sources and composition of reactive organic emissions to their atmospheric transformations and impacts on urban air quality. His work has advanced measurement techniques to study these complex mixtures and identified the growing role of non-traditional pollution sources, such as volatile chemical products in consumer goods, on urban air quality. His research has been published in leading journals including Science and Nature. He also holds an appointment in Yale’s School of the Environment.

Election to the Academy is on the basis of scientific and engineering distinction achieved through significant contributions in theory or applications, as demonstrated by original published books and papers, patents, the pioneering of new and developing fields and innovative products, outstanding leadership of nationally recognized technical teams, and external professional awards in recognition of scientific and engineering excellence.
