Langer Symposium

Chemical & Environmental Engineering

Robert M. Langer (’45 WE, ‘52 D.Eng.) was the Vice President and Treasurer of The Badger Company Inc., a leading world-wide engineering firm eventually acquired by Raytheon, as well as a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy. A dedicated Yale alumnus, Robert Langer earned his BS in 1945 and completed his Doctorate at Yale in 1952, both in chemical engineering.  Dr. Langer passed away at the age of 90, on September 4th, 2015, after a long illness. He is missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing this intelligent and lovely man.

Dr. Langer’s thoughtful donation to Yale brought about the Robert M. Langer Fund for Chemical & Environmental Engineering, which helps to support programs in the Department, as well as providing funds for graduate fellowship assistance, faculty research, and support for visiting professors and lecturers.

Since 2003, the Chemical & Environmental Engineering graduate students at Yale have organized the annual Robert M. Langer Graduate Student Symposium which brings at Yale international leaders in the fields of chemical and environmental engineering. The primary objective of this over two decade old department tradition is to provide graduate students a forum in a professional setting to present their research to fellow students, faculty, and distinguished guests from across the University.
