MS Students

Yale Engineering students graduating with a terminal Master of Science degree can participate in Yale Engineering’s Master’s Diploma Ceremony. Please contact Kate Schilling if you have any questions.

PhD Students

Yale Engineering students graduating with a doctorate (December 2025 or May 2026) may participate in Yale Engineering’s Doctoral Hooding Ceremony and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) Diploma Ceremony. Please contact Kate Schilling if you have any questions.

Registration for University Commencement

Registration for University Commencement is separate from registration for Yale Engineering events. Yale Commencement 2026 provides information for graduating students and their families and guests. For questions about University Commencement tickets, email university.events@yale.edu. 
 

Registration for Yale Engineering Commencement Activities

Doctoral Hooding Ceremony

Yale Engineering’s Doctoral Hooding Ceremony is held on Sunday, May 17^th, at 4:30 pm in SSS 114 for all PhD degree recipients. December 2025 and May 2026 graduates are invited to attend these activities.  

Registration is required to attend the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. The deadline to register is April 15, 2026. The registration form is available here. Students may bring guests; we ask that you list your guests when you register.

Master’s Diploma Ceremony

Yale Engineering’s Master’s Diploma Ceremony is held on Monday, May 18, at 12 pm in SSS 114 for all MS degree recipients. December 2025 and May 2026 graduates are invited to attend these activities. 

Registration is required to attend the Diploma Ceremony. The deadline to register is April 15, 2026. The registration form is available here. Students may bring guests; we ask that you list your guests when you register. There will be seating for guests both in SSS 114 and in Davies Auditorium, where the ceremony will be livestreamed.
 

Caps and Gowns

Academic attire or "regalia'' is to be worn by all participating students and faculty. Please refer to University Commencement information about regalia. 

Sunday, May 17

4:30 pm - On the Sunday before Commencement, Yale Engineering holds its Doctoral Hooding Ceremony in Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall (SSS, 1 Prospect Street), Room 114, during which each doctoral graduate will be recognized and academic prizes are awarded to graduating students. Students receiving prizes will be notified in advance.
 

Monday, May 18

8:30 am – All graduates gather with GSAS in Caulkins Courtyard at the McDougal Center (135 Prospect St) to process to Cross Campus and join the University Procession. 

10:30 am – University Commencement exercises begin on Old Campus. At the end of the ceremony, slightly before noon:

• Terminal Master’s graduates and guests should immediately make their way to Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall (SSS, 1 Prospect Street), room 114 and take their seats. Overflow seating with a livestream of the ceremony will be in Davies Auditorium (Becton Center, 15 Prospect Street).
• Doctoral graduates and guests should immediately make their way to Woolsey Hall (500 College Street) and take their seats.

12:00 pm – Immediately following the University Commencement on Old Campus:

• Terminal Master’s Diploma Ceremony will take place in SSS Hall, room 114. 
• Doctoral graduates will be recognized at the GSAS Degree Ceremony in Woolsey Hall.
   

1:30 pm – Departmental commencement events will be taking place throughout the afternoon. 

3:30 pm – Yale Engineering’s reception for all graduating students will be held in the Upper and Lower Becton Courtyards.

5:30 pm – All Commencement events for Yale Engineering are concluded.
