Two Yale Engineering graduates awarded UK Fellowships

Two recent Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science graduates have been awarded prestigious fellowships to continue their studies in the United Kingdom.

Keerthana Chari

Keerthana Chari '25 graduated with a B.S. in environmental engineering and was awarded a Paul Mellon Fellowship to pursue an M.Phil. degree in the history and philosophy of science at the University of Cambridge. As a Yale Climate Technologies Fellow, her senior thesis in Drew Gentner's laboratory explored atmospheric chemistry and air quality along the Connecticut coast. She has also conducted research on protein-lipid interactions at Yale School of Medicine and studied paper degradation mechanisms during an internship at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. At Cambridge, she plans to study the historical development of scientific analysis in museums and examine how scientific tools have been used to study material culture.

Calista Krass

Calista Krass '25 was awarded a Clarendon Scholarship to pursue a D.Phil. degree in engineering science at the University of Oxford, where she will research mixed matrix membranes for carbon capture. At Yale, she majored in chemical engineering and conducted research in the Computational Soft Matter Group, led by Prof. Amir Haji-Akbari. Committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in STEM, she served as an organic chemistry peer tutor and STEM mentor at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning. Her academic interests focus on utilizing engineering solutions to address sustainability challenges in heavy industry, with the goal of contributing to science-driven policymaking at international research organizations.

Both graduates exemplify Yale Engineering's commitment to addressing global challenges through innovative research and interdisciplinary approaches.
