Perspectives

My research focuses on building experimental quantum systems for fault-tolerant quantum computing, with an emphasis on arrays of individually controlled neutral atoms. Quantum computers promise capabilities far beyond those of conventional machines, yet quantum information is inherently fragile. A central challenge of the field is therefore fault tolerance: making quantum computation robust against errors, so that reliable results can be obtained from imperfect physical devices. This places stringent demands on both the scale and the precision of the underlying hardware. Neutral atoms are remarkably well suited to this challenge, combining long coherence times and strong, programmable interactions with the ability to be assembled into large, reconfigurable arrays.

We explore questions ranging from the atomic physics of the qubits and robust quantum control to error-correction protocols and scalable system architectures. By co-designing the hardware and the error-correction strategy, we aim to advance neutral-atom quantum computers from small-scale demonstrations to reliable, large-scale, fault-tolerant machines.
