Perspectives
Jorge M. Torres holds an appointment as a Lecturer and Entrepreneurship Fellow serving students and faculty at the School of Engineering & Applied Science and the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale. In this role, he teaches courses and leads co-curricular programs that center on innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital.
Jorge has partnered with the founders of several early-stage consumer brands and technology startups as an angel investor and through his past affiliation with Silas Capital, an early-growth stage venture capital firm based in New York. He was an original member of the investment team and completed a Kauffman Fellowship (Class 16) in venture capital while working at the firm.
Jorge also practiced patent law for 15 years, representing clients involved in matters that touched on a range of innovative technologies, including intraocular lenses; negative pressure wound therapy systems; oligonucleotide-based human papillomavirus tests; orthodontic aligners; pedicle screws; surgical endoscopes; therapeutic lasers; antivirus software; aseptic packaging; flat panel displays; high emission halogen lamps; mobile telephone handset designs; MP3 encoding; MPEG standards; semiconductors; terrain awareness/warning systems; and unattended payment systems.
Jorge supports entrepreneurs working in innovation communities across the globe through his affiliation as a mentor with HBCUvc, Techstars, Founder Institute, and Endeavor Global.
Jorge was born in the Bronx, raised in Queens, and has roots in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
